Family Fika

Today my mother and older brother came over for lunch. I wanted to make something that was fairly light and not too dinner-y, so I decided on the following:

-- Tomato Tartines
-- Mini Broccoli-Spinach Quiche
-- Fresh Summer Salad w/ Apples & Cranberries
-- Baked Oatmeal

In Sweden we have "fika" several times throughout the day. This is basically a coffee break which includes coffee or tea and pastries or small cookies. When I can't be in Sweden, I try to bring Sweden to me.
This is what I made for fika/dessert:

Chokladsnitt (biscotti-type chocolate cookies)
Hallongrottor (sugar cookie type dough with dollops of raspberry jam)
Bullar (Swedish cinnamon buns)

If you would like any of the recipes, do not hesitate to ask.
Please note: the recipes I have for the desserts use the metric system.

Happy cooking!

  1. baby that was so delicious. I think you are the best cook in the world. I came home tonight with the house filled with scrumptious smells. How did you get the picture of the jelly deserts to look so cool with the ones in the distance looks out of focus intentionality? i love you, birthday girl!

  3. These look delicious :-)

I think I'd like all of the recipes :-P if that's not too much to ask...

Also, I had a question for you, where do you get your measuring cups/etc for the recipes using metrics? I made that cake, and I had to convert from metric, and I thought it might be easier to just use metric measuring cups... what do you use?

  4. Hey Jess,
I'll post the recipes soon. :)
I have a measuring cup for deciliters that I bought in Sweden. Unfortunately, I don't know of any stores that sell them (I don't even think IKEA does), but I'm sure you can find them online. The measurements for tablespoons, teaspoons, etc are the same as the US system.
    Hope this helps!
